BRIDGE PROJE-CT

By definition, a bridge is a structure spanning and providing passage over a river, chasm, road, or the like. Although this is the basic definition of a bridge, I envision a pathway with much more meaning. When I took my first site visit to Boulder Creek with a bridge redesign in mind, I wanted to create an escape along the pathway that mimicked nature’s flow. Spending time beside such beautiful nature allows time for reflection, which furthers contentment. This sparked the idea to create a bridge with a curved path that mimicked the water flow on the creek. The final idea was to implement hidden pods that imitated the trees on the site through their leaf-like shape and tree-size scale. Throughout the path, these secret escapes allow for a break off from the course and provide a space for reflection and escape from reality. Bridges have the potential to be much more than a pathway, and that is where design comes into play.
